About Us
Mermom and Me
Children’s book author/ New Mermom.
One of our life adventures began when I chose to travel and homeschool. I believe in the power of quality family time and experiential learning. I wanted to provide my kids with unique educational opportunities. One of the more memorable experiences we shared was snorkeling and SCUBA diving.
With a passion for exploring under the ocean and the variety of marine life to experience and learn about, we began our journey of discovery. I taught my daughter Jennifer to SCUBA dive when she was 8 years old. She was so excited to learn all about the equipment, and how it worked, what safety procedures to follow, and all the fish and marine life she would get to swim with and befriend. Although she was seriously afraid of sharks, she took to the water like a fish. She eventually overcame her fear of sharks with knowledge, experience and many dives spending time observing them and realising they were not there to eat her!
A big part of our homeschooling curriculum was studying and researching life in the ocean. Our boat we were living and traveling was stocked with microscopes, for observing all things small and lots and lots of books about fish, Shells, coral, and all creatures that live in the ocean. Jennifer developing a deep appreciation, and love for the ocean and scuba diving
As the years went by, Jennifer together with her mother continued to pursue her love for scuba diving with hundreds of amazing dives.
One day Jennifer met the man of her ocean dreams, who also was a SCUBA diver and he proposed marriage while scuba diving on a shark dive In the Bahamas.
The story of this homeschooling mother and her daughter serves as a reminder of the incredible impact parents can have on their children’s education. It demonstrates that through unconventional and hands-on learning experiences, children can develop a deep love for learning and acquire invaluable life skills that will stay with them forever and become a family treasure handed down for generations

Ocean and Reef conservation
Hey there, Mermaid friends! Let me explain to you why ocean and reef conservation is so important in a way that I hope is easy and fun for you.
You know, the ocean is like a big, beautiful home for many amazing creatures. It’s like an underwater city where fish, turtles, dolphins, and even colorful corals live. But just like we take care of our own homes, we need to take care of the ocean too.
Conserving the ocean and its reefs means protecting and preserving these homes for all the creatures that live there. It’s like being a superhero for the ocean! When we take care of the ocean, we make sure that all the animals have clean water to swim in and a safe place to live.

But that’s not all! The ocean and its reefs also help us in many ways. They give us oxygen to breathe, just like trees on land.
They also provide us with delicious seafood to eat and beautiful places to explore, like colorful coral reefs. We can even find important medicines in the ocean that help us stay healthy.
Unfortunately, the ocean and its reefs are facing some problems. Pollution, climate change, and overfishing are harming them. That’s why it’s so important for us to do our part in conserving them. We can help by picking up trash on the beach, using less plastic, and being kind to the creatures that live in the ocean.
By taking care of the ocean and its reefs, we can make sure that future generations, like you and your friends, can continue to enjoy the wonders of the sea. So let’s be superheroes for the ocean and protect it for all the creatures and for ourselves too!

Blue Tang
Oh, I'd love to tell you about a blue tang, just like the one you see in the movie "Finding
Nemo"! Blue tangs are really cool fish that live in the ocean. They are very colorful and have a
bright blue color all over their body, just like the color of the sky on a sunny day.
Blue tangs have a funny shape. They are kind of like a flat, oval shape with a pointy tail. They have a small mouth and big eyes that help them see underwater. They also have tiny scales all over their body, which makes them look shiny and beautiful.
Blue tangs are really good swimmers. They use their fins, which are like little wings, to glide through the water. They can swim really fast and move in any direction they want.
These fish like to live in coral reefs, which are like underwater cities for all kinds of sea creatures. Blue tangs are very social and like to live in groups, called schools. They swim together and play games with each other.
Sometimes, blue tangs can be a little bit shy and hide among the coral. But if you're lucky, you might spot one swimming gracefully in the water, showing off its beautiful blue color.
I hope you enjoyed learning about blue tangs, they are really fascinating creatures!

Clown Fish
Well, hello there! Let me tell you about a clownfish, which is a super colorful and playful fish that lives in the ocean. You might have seen them in a famous movie called "Finding Nemo"
Clownfish are really small and they have a round body, just like a little ball. They come in bright colors like orange, yellow, and sometimes even white! But what makes them really special is their stripes. They have these cool stripes and spots on their body that make them look like they're wearing a fancy costume all the time.
Now, the most fun thing about clownfish is that they love to live in sea anemones. Sea what? Well, sea anemones are like squishy plants that live underwater. They have long, wavy tentacles that look like hair. And guess what? Clownfish and sea anemones are best friends!
The clownfish and the sea anemone help each other. The clownfish hides and plays among the tentacles of the sea anemone, and the sea anemone protects the clownfish from its enemies. Isn't that amazing? They're like the best buddies in the ocean!
Clownfish also have a very special ability. They can change their gender! Yes, that's right. If something happens to the dominant female clownfish, the largest male clownfish will transform into a female and become the new leader of the group. It's like a magical transformation!
Clownfish eat things like small shrimp and algae, which are like tiny plants in the water. They have a little mouth that sucks up their food, just like a vacuum cleaner!
So, if you ever see a clownfish, remember their vibrant colors, their special friendship with sea anemones, and their ability to change gender. They're like little underwater clowns that bring so much joy to the ocean!

Flamingo Tounge shell
A flamingo tongue shell is a tiny sea creature that lives in the ocean. It has a pretty shell that looks like the tongue of a flamingo bird, which is why it's called a flamingo tongue shell. The shell is usually bright orange or pink with white spots. It's very small, like the size of your fingernail. Flamingo tongue shells are very special because they have a pattern that helps them hide from other animals that might want to eat them. Isn't that cool?
Puffer Fish
Characters in The ocean is calling
Hey there! So, imagine a puffer fish as a really cute and funny-looking fish with a superpower. This fish can puff up like a balloon when it feels scared or threatened. It blows itself up by swallowing a lot of water, and it becomes round and spiky. It's like wearing a super fluffy and spiky jacket!
The puffer fish has all these tiny spines all over its body, kind of like tiny needles. These spines make it look like a little porcupine swimming in the water. And you know what's even more fun? Some pufferfish have different colors and patterns on their bodies, like they're wearing fancy clothes.
Now, here's the most important thing to know about puffer fish: they have this special way to protect themselves from predators. When they puff up, they becomereally big and spiky, making it hard for other fish or animals to eat them. It's like they turn into a big balloon that no one can pop!
But here's the cool part: puffer fish are not mean or aggressive. They're quite shy and gentle. They only puff up when they feel scared or threatened. It's their way of saying, "Hey, leave me alone, I'm not tasty!
So, next time you see a puffer fish, remember that they're like little underwater balloons with spikes. They're just trying to stay safe and be themselves. Pretty cool, huh?

Starfish have a lot of arms, just like a star has points. They can have anywhere from 5 to 40 arms! Isn't that cool? These arms are not like our arms, they're more like long, wiggly legs. Starfish use their arms to walk around on the ocean floor.
Now, here's something really amazing about starfish. If they lose one of their arms, they can actually grow it back! It's like magic! They have the power to regenerate their arms if they get hurt or if they need to protect themselves.
Starfish also come in different colors. Some are orange, some are purple, and some even have patterns on their bodies. They're like little works of art! And guess what? They can change their colors too! They do this to blend in with their surroundings and hide from predators.

Sting ray
A stingray is a super cool and interesting fish that lives in the ocean. It's shaped like a flat
pancake and it has a long, pointy tail. The stingray has smooth and slimy skin, kind of like wet rubber. It comes in different colors, like gray, brown, or even spotted!
Now, the most special thing about a stingray is its tail. It has a little stinger at the end of its tail that it uses for protection. If it feels scared or threatened, it can sting with its tail. But don't worry, because stingrays are usually very gentle and they only sting when they really need to defend themselves.
Stingrays also have these awesome wings called "fins" that they use to swim gracefully through the water. They can glide and float, just like a bird in the sky! They even have eyes on the top of their body, so they can see what's happening above them while they're swimming.
Stingrays like to live in warm, tropical waters, and they eat things like small fish, shrimps, and even crabs. They use their flat mouths to suck up their food from the ocean floor.
So, next time you see a stingray, remember how cool and unique they are with their flat bodies, long tails, and stingers! But always remember to admire them from a safe distance and let them enjoy their ocean home.
